Matthew Ryan Phillippe, born September 10, 1974 in New Castle, Delaware, is an American actor who plays the role Ben Crawford in the first season of the American version of "Secrets and Lies".
Biography[]
Phillippe was born in New Castle, Delaware. His mother, Susan (née Thomas), ran a day care center in the family's house, and his father, Richard Phillippe, worked for DuPont. He has three sisters. He attended New Castle Christian Academy, where he played basketball and soccer, as well as earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, he was also the Yearbook Editor in his senior year.
As an actor, producer, and writer, Ryan Phillippe has established himself as one of Hollywood's most versatile talents in the industry.
Phillippe recently finished principal photography on his directorial debut, Catch Hell, in which he also co-wrote and produced. The story follows an actor abducted while on location and is inspired by true events.
He can last be seen opposite Matthew McConaughey and Marisa Tomei in Lionsgate's The Lincoln Lawyer. The film centers on a lawyer who conducts business from the back of his Lincoln town car will representing a high profile client in Beverly Hills (Phillippe) who isn't quite who he seems to be. Phillippe can also be seen in Steven Silver's The Bang Bang Club, a drama based on true-life experiences of four combat photographers capturing the final days of apartheid in South Africa.
Phillippe can next be seen in Reclaim, also starring John Cusack and Jackie Weaver. Written by Luke Davies, Reclaim is the story of a young couple that go to Puerto Rico to adopt a Haitian child who mysteriously disappears from their hotel room.
On the silver screen, Phillippe is featured in a reoccurring role in the FX drama Damages, as Channing McClaren. His character is based upon Julian Assange, the founder of the now infamous WikiLeaks, which publishes submissions of secret information, news leaks and classified media from anonymous news sources and whistleblowers.
His most recent successes include Clint Eastwood's Flags of our Fathers for Dreamworks and Warner Bros and Universal's Breach starring opposite Chris Cooper. The film, based on real life events, follows an aspiring FBI Agent who is handpicked to work for a renowned operative in the classified intelligence division, where the trainee discovers that his mentor might be the nation's most dangerous security risk.
Since his first film, Disney's White Squall with director Ridley Scott, Phillippe has worked with exceptional actors and award winning directors. Other film credits include Robert Altman's Oscar nominated film Gosford Park, Igby Goes Down with Susan Sarandon and Kiren Culkin, Anti-Trust for MGM co-starring Tim Robbins, Paramount Classic's Company Man with Sigourney Weaver, Artisan's Way of the Gun and Miramax's The I Inside.
He could also be seen in Lionsgate's Academy Award winning film Crash for director Paul Haggis about a group of strangers who are brought together by a car accident, Paramount's war-drama, Stop Loss, alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Channing Tatum, Universal's MacGrubber with Will Forte and Kristen Wiig and the neo-noir film set in London, Franklyn, opposite Eva Green, the Columbia box office smash I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions, co-starring Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar and Miramax's 54 with Mike Meyers.
